In honour of Volunteers Week, we have interviewed all our wonderful volunteers to showcase their talent, passion and diversity. If you’d like to join our team, pop into the shop or contact us for more information.

Why did you decide to volunteer here?: I admired the Save the Children charity

Why did you decide to volunteer here?: I first came here [to Edinburgh] in December so I wanted to meet people

What do you like to do most in the shop?: Being at the till and speaking with customers, helping them with their choices

Why did you decide to volunteer here? I wanted to gain experience and help out my community

What do you like doing the most in the shop?: When I am on the shop floor, I like interacting with the customers and meeting new colleagues – for social media, I like updating the twitter account and gaining new followers for the shop

Why did you decide to volunteer here?: After I retired, I wanted to do something, and give back to my community whilst I still had my health

What do you like to do most in the shop?: Talk to customers – my favourite part about volunteering is knowing that I’m contributing to Save the Children

Age: Mid-thirties

Adjective to describe yourself: Just one? Indecisive (Or as Montse likes to mention, ‘assertive’!)

What do you do when you are not volunteering?: I work for a charity as an Administrator. In my spare time I read a ridiculous amount and press my book recommendations onto others. I also volunteer for another charity shop in Stockbridge.

How long have you been volunteering here for?: Just over 2 years.

Why did you decide to volunteer here?: I’ve volunteered in various places for about six years, and I was looking for somewhere to volunteer when I moved to Edinburgh in 2015. I really liked the feel of the shop when I first visited, and everyone’s friendly and welcoming.

What do you like to do most in the shop?: It’s fun being on the shop floor or the till and meeting people.

What do you like to do most in the shop?: Serve customers

What do you do when you are not volunteering?: I look after my dog, and visit my sons. One is in Oman and the other one is here.

How long have you been volunteering here for?: Nearly two years

Why did you decide to volunteer here?: I suppose it’s time to give back for the smashing life that I had. I like meeting people and it’s buoyant, it’s nice.

What do you like to do most in the shop?: Talking to people. I’m not very good at hard work.

Shift: Friday mornings

Adjective to describe yourself: Friendly.

What do you do when you are not volunteering?: I’m self-employed.

How long have you been volunteering here for?: Nearly three years.

Why did you decide to volunteer here?: I used to live in this area and work in vintage, fashion and textiles in the area. My daughter and sons all did charity work, and since they left home I wanted to do something for myself and get away from my job which is home-office work. It’s an area I was familiar with, it’s like going back 40 years! It’s good fun and I believe very much in Save the Children, because I have got children that have been really fortunate in life, and some children are not.

What do you like to do most in the shop?: I like to look at the clothes to check the prices. Having worked in fashion, I am very familiar with makes.
